‘Intersection takeover’ in NW Miami-Dade leads to heated dispute, shooting; 3 hospitalized, gunman at large

Three young people were taken to the hospital after a group that took over an intersection in Northwest Miami-Dade got into a heated dispute that led to a shooting, police said.According to Miami-Dade Police, the group was called in a so-called “intersection takeover” on Northwest 146th Street and Seventh Avenue, early Sunday morning.At some point, detectives said, the group started to fight. At around 6 a.m., someone pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking the victims.Paramedics transported a man and a woman to Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition.A third victim was taken to Hialeah Hospital by a friend. He was later transferred to Ryder Trauma Center in unknown condition.Investigators said the injured victims range in age from 19 to 20 years old.Along Interstate 95, authorities shut down the southbound lanes near Northwest 95th Street.As the morning went on, MDPD investigators were seen taking pictures of a white car that appears to have been hit by bullets.Back ...

All clear given at FLL after suspicious unattended bag prompts Terminal 1 evacuation

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is back up and running as usual after a terminal was evacuated.The Broward Sheriff’s Office received a call about a suspicious unattended bag located in the upper level of Terminal 1 just before 10:35 a.m., Sunday.BSO’s Bomb Squad Unit responded and cleared the area.Traveler Geoffrey Adler praised first responders for their quick and decisive actions.“I think the Broward County Sheriff’s Department, they’re doing a good job keeping an eye on what’s going on,” he said. “I appreciate that, and I appreciate the care for our safety and well-being. It is definitely an inconvenience, and now there’s just concern if we’re going to make our flight on time.”After an investigation, the bag was deemed safe, and the terminal was given the all clear at around 12:30 p.m.

Firefighters battled fierce flames after a fire broke out inside a house in Miami.City of Miami Police and Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the blaze in the area of Northwest 23rd Avenue and 38th Street, Saturday night.Crews blocked off the street during the investigation.No injuries were reported.The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Police ID 25-year-old killed in Exeter, NH motorcycle crash

New Hampshire state police have identified the 25-year-old New Hampshire man who died in a motorcycle crash in Exeter on Sunday morning.Troopers responding to a single motorcycle crash on Route 101 westbound in Exeter determined that Kiel Forgitano, of Raymond, had lost control of his motorcycle, veered off the roadway, and hit a tree, according to New Hampshire State Police.He succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Suspect arrested in Waltham stabbing

A Waltham man is facing criminal charges in connection with a stabbing on Sunday morning, officials said.Officers responding to a reported stabbing at 94 Adams St. around 11:15 a.m. found a man suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Waltham Police Department. He was taken to a nearby hospital.Soon after, Thiago Oliveira, 33, was arrested on charges of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, criminal threatening, and assault with a dangerous weapon. July revenues up 11% over last year

The final accounting of fiscal year 2023 is not yet done, but the Department of Revenue started fiscal year 2024 off in July by collecting $2.67 billion in tax revenue, $264 million or 11% more than was collected in July 2022.Collections were up for almost every tax category, but DOR said it thinks that about $150 million of the year-over-year increase “reflects a shift in sales and use and withholding collections between months because of timing.” Without that shift, DOR estimated that July 2023 collections would have been about $114 million or 4.7%  more than actual collections of July 2022.“July revenue included increases relative to July 2022 collections in withholding, non-withheld income tax, sales and use tax, corporate and business tax, and ‘all other’ tax,” Revenue Commissioner Geoffrey Snyder said. “The increase in sales and use tax was the result of typical periodic fluctuations in collections. DNA has confirmed the large female black bear and her three little accomplices were responsible for at least 21 instances of property damage since 2022, the state Department of Fish and Wildlife said in a statement. The mother bear and her babies were “safely immobilized” on Friday, the statement said. The adult female, known to researchers as 64F, will likely be taken to a sprawling wildlife sanctuary near Springfield, Colorado. MEXICO CITY (AP) — Tropical Storm Eugene headed away from Mexico’s Pacific coast Sunday and was expected to weaken. Eugene brought some rain to Baja California. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Eugene was centered about 210 miles (340 kilometers) west of the Baja resort of Los Cabos on Sunday afternoon. Its maximum sustained winds remained at about 70 mph (110 kph) and it was moving west-northwest at 20 mph (31 kph).The Mexican government warned the system could cause “heavy rains” along the coast, but Eugene was expected to head out to sea.It was the fifth named storm of the eastern Pacific hurricane season.The Associated Press
