NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Heavy fighting Sunday in a disputed region claimed by both Sudan and South Sudan killed at least 32 people, including a U.N. peacekeeper, authorities said.The civilians and a Ghanaian soldier serving with a peacekeeping force died when unknown gunmen attacked two villages in the southern part of the Abyei administrative region, local media reported.A South Sudanese radio station, Eye Radio Juba, quoted Abyei information minister Bolis Kuoch as saying 32 people were killed and 20 others wounded, “but the clashes have now stopped and the situation calmed down.” Inter-communal and cross-border clashes have escalated since South Sudan deployed its troops to the contested territory in March. Bills safety Taylor Rapp avoids hospital after being taken away by ambulance with neck injury

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills safety Taylor Rapp didn’t require a trip to the hospital and was sent home to rest with a neck injury after he was driven away by ambulance late in the first half against the New York Jets on Sunday, coach Sean McDermott said.“I’m just praying for those guys,” McDermott said in reference to Rapp and defensive backs Dane Jackson and Taron Johnson, both of whom sustained concussions in Buffalo’s 32-6 victory.Rapp suffered what appeared to be the most serious injury when he and Johnson both struck running back Breece Hall in the open field. Johnson went down immediately, while Rapp stumbled back about 10 yards before collapsing to his knees.Rapp came in from Hall’s right, and appeared to hit the running back with the side of his head and shoulder. CHICAGO (AP) — Federal safety officials investigating a Chicago commuter train crash that injured nearly 40 people when it slammed into snow-removal equipment are focusing on a “design problem” with its braking system.National Transportation Safety Board Chairperson Jennifer Homendy said the Chicago Transit Authority train was traveling at 26.9 mph (43.3 kpm) on Thursday when it struck the snow-removal equipment, which was on the tracks conducting training for the winter season. She said that based on preliminary information she believes that equipment, with six CTA workers onboard, was stopped when the train crashed into it.Homendy said NTSB’s initial calculations based on the train’s speed and other factors such as the number of passengers on board indicate it was designed to stop within 1,780 feet (542.5 meters) to avoid something its path.
